My first painting contest

So last weekend I attended to my first painting contest. Let me start with that I didn't win anything, but I still enjoyed the event very much.
There were a couple dozen tables set up for games, all full with players. Also a huge bitz market, where I unfortunately couldn't find anything of my interest, but it is a good thing that there was a dedicated room for that where people could exchange bitz.

I saw so many incredibly good painted minis. I was amazed, the painting scene here is extremely talented. My minis were about the 120th entry pieces, but there were many people arriving after me so the competition was huge.

I entered with three minis.
The biggest was my Maw Krusha.

Griffon Body Finished

The painting contest is tomorrow and here is the painted and assembled High Warden. I'm looking forward to the event and hoping to learn a lot from the other entrants.

Painting is finished, almost ready to glue on the base
I'm thinking that I fell overboard with my entry pieces. I'm going to bring 3 pieces, two of which will enter in the same category. For the next contest I will have more time to prepare and find out what I will paint to enter with.

High Warden - Rider, Wings, Base

The rider is mostly finished.
Some minor corrections will be needed, but I'm not planning to change the overall look.

I wanted to challenge myself and not use metallic paints on this model. All parts painted with regular matt acrylic paints using washes, layering, and minimal drybushing techniques.

The model is still in subassemblies, almost nothing is glued yet (push fit)
The idea is to use cold colors on the rider and warm colors on the Griffon. I picked the green-blue color scheme on the armor because I can follow that later on the Spireguard models. I'm also planning purple on the Swordmasters so this scheme will go with both and the final Elven army will look great together.

The basing is finished in the same theme as the whole army is planned and which I also used on the temple ruins scenery pieces. The greenstuff tentacle vines will hold up the model making it look more natural than the original plastic stick.

It already looks good but I added some Vallejo earth texture where the bricks are missing and painted everything.

High Warden - First miniature for a contest

Forget what I said in the post two weeks ago about the elf army being not prioritized for painting.
I just found out that there is a miniature painting contest in the city this December and the High Warden from the Spire of Dawn box will be my entry piece.

Light grey priming is done already on all pieces and I begin to work on the face and helmet.

I had a very hard time painting the eyes to look somewhat acceptable
This is my first real try at NMM (non metallic metal) painting. Some skaven weapons was painted that way as early experiments but nothing extraordinary. Now I want to paint all the armor in NMM, and will see if I can make some miracle with the cape and banner. I'm planning some extra shadow work on the beast as well.

I already have some scenery ruin pieces with a little elven theme on them, and the base of this model will follow that theme.
