Citadel Painting App review

In this month launched the Citadel Painting App for smart phones.
I was very excited about the release, hoping it will help me with painting ideas color schemes and maybe even win the paints in the first week. (Unfortunately I was not drawn)

The app is free, with no in app purchases. Even the wish list was not linked with the Games Workshop webstore to buy the paints there which is surprising.

For beginners this can prove really helpful choosing paint colors for specific miniatures and factions.
You can browse by color or by miniatures.
  • If you looking for how to paint a specific color, you just need to go through the list, then you can specify the shade needed. After this the recommended colors show up with a space marine backpack painted with them for reference.
  • In the paint by miniature menu you can find a selection of models and you can choose parts of the models to see the colors needed to paint for example the helmet or the weapon of that model. They said they will add more models later.
There are some examples of painting bases using the Citadel texture paints.

You can keep track of your paints in the app and also make a wish list.

I'm missing the option to sort the inventory by color, you must go through it my name. We should be able to see all blue(ish) colors for example next to each other, this would help beginners a lot.
The paint by miniature also could use at least a search option or browse by faction or any sorting method. It is just a long scroll down list now.

The app is good for new hobbyists, and with the WarhammerTV YouTube channel this app is a good kick in the good direction leading starters forward.
